MIXED MEDIA DESIGN

We are Mixed Media Design, a graphic design studio serving Taranaki and clients throughout New Zealand. Established in 2010, our business is led by designer and mixed media artist Gail Mylne. We create logos, visual identities, printed materials and digital graphics for businesses that need their message presented clearly. Our work ranges from a single promotional item to a coordinated set of branded materials.

We serve businesses seeking a Taranaki graphic designer who stays involved from the first discussion to the finished artwork. Gail takes time to understand a business, its services and the audience it wants to reach. We use that brief to develop concepts and refine the details, rather than working from the same formula for every client. The aim is practical design that suits both the message and where it will appear.

Gail brings more than 30 years of experience in graphic design, visual communication and print. She completed a Social Science degree at Waikato University, then a diploma in Display and Advertising. Her career includes work for agencies and design studios in Auckland, Melbourne, London and Wellington, followed by freelance design from 2000. We draw on that experience when developing work for different industries, formats and business sizes.

We pay attention to where design ends up. A logo may need to work on a small business card, a large sign and a digital image, while a multi-page brochure needs a layout people can follow. We take those different uses into account during the design process, including how size, colour and layout affect the final piece. This helps us avoid treating print and digital graphics as interchangeable.

Our creative work extends beyond conventional business graphics. We create custom artwork, animated logos and other digital materials, drawing on Gail's background in traditional and mixed media art. For projects that move into print, we can arrange quotes, review proofs and coordinate production with specialist suppliers. This keeps the visual decisions connected to the actual materials a business receives.

We work with start-ups building their first identity as well as established businesses updating existing material. Projects are planned around the scope of the brief, and Gail remains closely involved throughout. As a small studio, we focus on clear discussion, design choices that suit the work, and careful handling of production details. We are based in Taranaki and continue to work with clients beyond the region.

Our work covers both creative design and the practical steps needed to take finished files into print or digital use. We handle individual projects and sets of materials built around the same visual identity. The scope depends on what needs to be produced.

Branding and logo design: We create original logos and broader brand designs shaped by the business and its history. A wider package may include style guidelines and coordinated artwork for stationery, signs and digital marketing materials. We also adapt visual elements to suit the formats in which they will appear.

Business cards and stationery: We design business cards and branded print items, choosing layouts and print options that suit the job. We can manage the printing process, including discussions with specialist suppliers and checks before sign-off.

Brochures and flyers: We design single-page promotional pieces as well as bifold and trifold brochures. Our work can cover graphics, copy, page layout, paper choices and print coordination. Clear reading order matters, especially when a brochure has several panels.

Signage and display graphics: We prepare artwork for vehicle signage, banners, flags, sandwich boards, exhibition wall displays and materials for events or conferences. Each piece needs to communicate quickly, so we consider how much information belongs on it and how it will be viewed.

Vouchers and promotional material: We design vouchers that make an offer clear while retaining the look of the business. They can form part of a wider set of branded print material.

Magazines and newsletters: We design publication layouts that organise text and images, support readability and reflect an existing brand. We pay attention to the relationship between headings, body copy, pictures and space across multiple pages.

Digital graphics and custom artwork: Our work includes digital promotional material, animated logos, custom artwork and mixed media creative projects. Gail develops creative concepts through traditional art techniques and digital tools.

Print management and production: We can organise print quotes, coordinate specialist suppliers, check proofs and sign off print runs. When a job needs input from photographers or web developers, we can coordinate with those specialists as part of the project.

Much of our work involves keeping the same design recognisable across different formats. Artwork that reads well as a digital graphic is not necessarily suited to a large banner or a small business card. We adjust sizing, layout and production details to match the intended use while retaining a consistent visual identity. This matters when a business needs several items produced at the same time.

For design and production, we use Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat, plus Microsoft Word and PowerPoint where needed. We can develop concepts through sketches and visual mock-ups before preparing final artwork. Some clients need one focused item; others need print, signage and digital graphics planned together. We shape the work around the brief rather than assuming every job calls for a complete rebrand.
