We provide plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying for homes, businesses and building projects throughout the Wellington region. At PLUMSPEC, we handle everything from leaking taps and failed hot water cylinders to new housing developments, commercial plumbing and civil drainage. We also offer specialist pipework design and specification before construction begins.

We are a third-generation family business, previously known as Crofton Plumbing Ltd, with more than 40 years of plumbing experience in Wellington. Directors Tony and Scott Witty lead our business, supported by a team of qualified tradespeople, apprentices and office staff. The PlumbSpec name reflects the broader services we now provide while retaining the family involvement behind the original company.

Our team includes certified plumbers and gasfitters and registered drainlayers. We are members of Master Plumbers and registered installers of Puretec water filtration systems. That combination is useful on projects where water supply, wastewater, stormwater and gas services need to be planned together, rather than addressed as unrelated jobs.

For builders and developers, we can handle plumbing and drainage across the stages of a new home or townhouse development, from initial plans and below-ground services to installation and final fit-off. We also carry out bathroom and kitchen renovations, maintenance in occupied properties, commercial fit-outs and ongoing plumbing work for schools and businesses. Our approach is to explain the work required, discuss practical options and stay involved through the stages we have been engaged to complete.

We work throughout Wellington City, Porirua and the Hutt Valley, including Johnsonville, Karori, Khandallah, Tawa, Newtown, Miramar, Petone, Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt. Our wider service area also reaches the Kāpiti Coast and South Wairarapa. For residential plumbing, we repair or replace leaking taps, mixers, toilets, basins, sinks, showers, baths and laundry fittings. We replace ageing hot water cylinders, waste disposal units and older black Dux water pipework, and we attend to spouting and downpipe repairs. Our maintenance work also covers blocked sewer and stormwater drains, septic and retention tank servicing and water pressure concerns. We offer a Plumbing Warrant of Fitness inspection of accessible plumbing, gas and drainage systems, with a written record of any concerns identified.

Our gasfitting services include gas hot water installation and repairs, gas fireplaces, home heating systems, ovens, cooktops, bayonet fittings and gas pipework. We handle appliance maintenance, gas line repairs and new installations for both residential and commercial properties. We also supply and install conventional hot water cylinders and heat pump water heaters. By checking the existing installation and how much hot water the building requires, we can discuss suitable replacement or upgrade options.

New-home plumbing is a significant part of our work. We take on individual houses, multi-unit townhouse projects and larger residential developments, supplying drainage, internal pipework, gasfitting and final plumbing fit-off. For renovations, we work on kitchen and bathroom plumbing, new fixtures, outdoor showers and taps, and changes to existing water supply and waste pipes. Getting the pipe routes, connection points and drainage requirements clear early can help avoid changes once walls, floors and other finishes are in place.

We also provide commercial plumbing installation, repairs and preventative maintenance for offices, retail premises, schools, hospitality venues and other business properties. Our commercial work includes kitchen and bathroom fit-outs, public toilets, drinking fountains, hot water systems, drainage and gas services. We work with builders, contractors, developers and property managers on both construction projects and the maintenance of occupied buildings. For larger jobs, we can coordinate with specialist subcontractors where the project requires them.

Our drainlaying and stormwater services include new drainage installations, blocked drain clearing, civil drainage and repairs to existing systems. We use CCTV drain cameras to investigate underground pipework and identify faults such as blockages, damaged joints, cracks and tree-root intrusion without unnecessary excavation. We also investigate hidden water leaks, mains leaks, unusual water loss and pressure problems, then recommend repair or replacement work based on the fault found.

Water storage and treatment are another part of our work. We supply and install rainwater collection tanks, water retention and detention tanks, and associated pipework for residential and development sites. We also install Puretec water filtration systems, including options for households that want to improve the water supplied to their taps. Tank design and drainage need to account for the available space, site levels and how water is meant to flow through the property.

For commercial premises and other properties with backflow prevention devices, we offer device installation, testing, maintenance, repair and replacement. We provide the certification paperwork required for annual commercial backflow checks by councils. Through our PipeSpec design service, we also prepare hydraulic pipework plans for sanitary plumbing, hot and cold water supplies, gas, sewer drainage and stormwater systems. Architects and designers can use this service across New Zealand, with engineering calculations and council liaison provided where required.
